TRANSPORT ACTION COALITION

TRAC is a community group which formed to oppose the Fremantle Eastern Bypass and to seek environmentally sustainable solutions to regional traffic problems.

    Saving Clontarf Hill

    TRAC was highly critical of the low standard of the environmental review Main Roads WA, the proponent of the Fremantle'bypass', released for the Clontarf Hill remnant bushland open space justifying its destruction for the highway. (2000)     

                Friends of Clontarf Hill paper summarising the importance of the remnant bushland and why it deserves protecton and enhancement.

            Friends of Clontarf Hill made a submission to the WA Planning Commission during the Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment hearings on the deletion of the Fremantle Highway (2003).

     Friends of Clontarf Hill hard work finally pays off with a Premier's  award in 2003.

    Associated Fremantle bypass Information

  • TRAC's submission to the Department of Transport's Perth Metropolitan Freight Transport Strategy 1999. It was just another highway building plan from the government.
  • Main Roads WA has a standardised justification for roads it wants to build. It did the same with the Fremantle 'bypass'. (1998)

    The City of Melville was part of the Liberal Party campaign to stop the deletion of the Fremantle ' bypass'. It made misleading and inaccurate comments during the deletion process and spent over  $100 000 in its political campaign. TRAC was one of groups that exposed the Melville misinformation.

    Melville Council has for some time supported BIG upgrades to Leach Highway  (2003)

  • Comments on the Leighton Shores proposal. In 1999 the State Government planned to urbanise and build a big new highway through Leighton. (2000)
